Heritage Open Days: Guided Tour of the Chapel of St Paul

Join us for a special guided tour of the beautiful Chapel of St Paul, especially for Heritage Open Days.
The site of the original medieval manor house, the Chapel you see today was created from the ruins by the Reverend Lewis Way in the 1800's.
Consecrated in 1819, the service was attended by the poet John Keats and the Chapel's unique imagery inspired his poems The Eve of St Agnes and The Eve of St Mark.
The Dixon's, Wilder's, Whittaker's and Bessborough's all used the Chapel of St Paul as a space for private family workship; with the 9th Earl of Bessborough commissioning Harry Stuart Goodhart-Rendel to complete the restoration and redecoration of the space after he purchased the estate in 1924.

Q: Can I purchase a ticket on the day?
A: Tickets for this event must be prebooked in advance and tickets will not be available to purchase on the day.
Q: Where do I go for the start of the tour?
A: Please make your way to the Dutch Garden, located next to the Pavilion Tearoom, for 12:30pm. Your guide will meet you in the Dutch Garden and will show you through to the Chapel of St Paul. Please note that the gate to the Chapel of St Paul will be locked prior to the guide's arrival.
Q: Can I visit Stansted House after the tour?
A: Stansted House will be open between 1pm-5pm, with last entry at 4pm, on Sunday 13, Monday 14 & Tuesday 15 September 2026. Ticketholders are advised to check their confirmation email for a discount code to use on prebooked tickets to Stansted House.
Accessibility
Step-free access is available into the Chapel of St Paul via two lifts. Accessible parking spaces are available in the South Entrance Car Park, with a couple of spaces available in the Bothy Car Park next to the Pavilion Tearoom.
