Geoff Jago grew tired of running his quarter scale Denver & Rio Grande 2-8-0 steam locomotion around a small circle track at the Fareham & District Society of Model Engineers club and so decided to create his own miniature railway. After 2 years searching for a suitable site, he eventually obtained the lease on an area in the grounds of Stansted Park. With the help of three volunteers he spent the next 2 1/2 years building the Railway from scratch.
Since its opening in 2005, volunteers have made major improvements to the Railway which include: doubling the track between the Station and Laurel Junction; increasing the length of Loggers Loop and adding a 12 foot span girder bridge: building a 6 road engine shed and workshop plus turntable; building a 3 road carriage shed; and improvements to the Station layout and facilities.
Over the years the locomotive fleet has increased to 4 steam and 3 petrol hydraulic locomotives, plus a third scale traction engine.
