STANSTED HOUSE

In 1983 the 10th Earl of Bessborough gave Stansted Park, his family home, its beautiful contents and the Arboretum to the public. Visitors can explore the state rooms that are  furnished as though the 10th Earl was still at home, giving you a real sense of a bygone era, including the extensive Servants' Quarters below stairs.  The history of the house and the family are brought to life by knowledgeable and friendly guides who will can assist you throughout your visit.

ACCESSIBILITY

We want to help you get the most out of your visit.  We welcome visitors of all interests and abilities. The Walled Gardens, Garden Centre, craft workshops and Pavilion Tea Room all have level access, but some paths in the grounds are gravelled.

The Mansion is accessible by wheelchair lift and an inside passenger lift. We regret that we cannot accommodate large powered wheelchairs in these, please call ahead of your visit to find out more information and to avoid disappointment.

Please download our access statement or ask for a copy if you'd like more information. We also welcome feedback to help us improve our service.

PARKING

The Garden Centre car park is the main car park for access to all Walled Garden attractions and the House.
There is a designated ‘disabled’ car park next to the Pavilion Tea Room for Blue Badge holders and beside the entry to the Garden Centre.
House visitors with mobility limitations may be dropped off beside the House by arrangement.

DOGS

We regret that only assistance dogs are permitted in the gardens, maze and House. There is no shade in car parks. For reasons of public safety dogs are not allowed at general public events (dog themed events are an exception). Dogs on footpaths and bridleways in the Forest must be kept under close control.
