School Visits Stansted Park Hampshire

Stansted Park for Schools

A beautiful stately home set in fantastic grounds; a wonderful educational resource on your doorstep.

Stansted Park is a friendly stately home in acres of beautiful grounds. The extensive servants' quarters and grand state rooms make it a fascinating place to learn about how life has changed over the last 100 years. In addition, the unique Chapel, the yew tree maze and beautiful arboretum, with over 40 species of trees, allow for wider curriculum learning.

We have been awarded the Quality Badge for Learning Outside the Classroom for our educational services (2017). We have a range of curriculum-based workshops linked to History, Art, Literacy, Science and Religious studies. All our workshops include hands-on activities such as rag-rug making, sewing and simple knitting, weighing, measuring and food preparation, using traditional kitchen equipment, examining ‘mystery objects’ from the past, playing toys and games from a bygone age, making lavender bags……..as well as servants’ chores!

Takeover Days at Stansted House

Suitable for Year Groups 5-8 our Takeover Days give you the opportunity to learn about the history of the Stansted Estate over hundreds of years and to curate your own exhibition.

Pupils will:

  • Handle genuine artefacts found on the estate from Roman times to the 20th Century.
  • Take part in a guided tour and quiz focussed on the conservation aspects of maintaining Stansted House.
  • Learn about the different careers available in the Heritage industry.
  • Plan, market and curate their own exhibition using the objects they have explored.

Price per pupil - £8.50 full day & £6 half day

We are a 45-minute walk through the grounds from Rowlands Castle railway station. For more details of our workshops, download the leaflet from the bottom of the page.

Indoor and outdoor picnic facilities are available for pre-booked school groups. We give all children free leaflets, postcards and a free re-admission ticket so they can return with their family for a visit.
