Stansted Park for Schools

New Key Stage 1&2 Educational programme for 2017/2018! Please see downloadable document at the bottom of the page...

A beautiful stately home set in fantastic grounds; a wonderful educational resource on your doorstep.

Stansted Park is a friendly stately home in acres of beautiful grounds. Fun to visit, and a valuable and accessible resource for all ages, to enjoy and inspire!

We have been awarded our fourth Quality Badge for Learning Outside the Classroom for our educational services (2016).

What we have to offer:

  • 1800 acres of forest
  • A wonderful arboretum to explore
  • Get lost (and found) in our Yew Maze
  • Victorian Walled Gardens
  • A hisoric Chapel
  • Edwardian Mansion
  • An abundance of genuine artefacts
  • Forest School

At the House - Immerse yourself in history and enjoy a wonderful upstairs/ downstairs experience. Meet the housekeeper, maids and cook as our costumed volunteers explain their roles. Younger children have the chance to dress up as servants and learn what life was like for the people who lived here.

WWII saw us become a home for many evacuees. Find out where they lived and how life changed for everyone.

Children love our unique fully-furnished Servants' Quarters, a real contrast to the splendid mansion rooms above. Hundreds of original artefacts and historic portraits are on display.

For younger groups, learning is through handling and role–play in small groups. Look and listen to stories about artefacts, people and places. Guess what 'mystery objects' were used for. Stansted Park is a learning resource for investigation, comparison, looking for evidence and discussion.

Art work, design, and stories, music, drama and history, can be based on real characters and real objects that will fire the imagination. Domestic life can be re-lived, discussed and brought to life 'below stairs.' Upstairs in the splendid Music Room your music teacher can play the piano.

Children can handle 'mystery objects' and dress up as Butler, Cook or Housekeeper; look at the symmetry of the formal dining table and use number skills to work out how many spoons would be needed three times a day; find out how the Footmen had a bath, and where the water came from (and went to!).

Indoor and outdoor picnic facilities are available for pre-booked school groups. We give all children free leaflets, postcards and a free re-admission ticket so they can return with their family for a visit.

We welcome visits from school and college groups of all ages and abilities to Stansted Park from Spring half-term until Autumn half-term. We are easily accessible for coaches and sign posted from the A3 (M) J2 for Emsworth (south) and A27 at Havant (north) within easy reach of Portsmouth and Chichester.

Call 023 9241 2265 or email enquiry@stanstedpark.co.uk to enquire and please check our diary before booking your transport.  We welcome a pre visit by teachers to discuss your specific curriculum needs and how we can make the best of your visit here.
