Stansted Park is a friendly stately home in acres of beautiful grounds. Fun to visit, and a valuable and accessible resource for all ages, to enjoy and inspire!
We have been awarded a second Quality Badge for Learning Outside the Classroom for our educational services (2012).
Children love our unique fully-furnished Servants' Quarters, a real contrast to the splendid mansion rooms above. Hundreds of original artefacts and historic portraits are on display.
You can download images from our 'gallery' page to find inspiration for how the Victorians lived and worked, Upstairs-Downstairs life in a big house, or the Second World War experiences of real Evacuees at Stansted Park.
For younger groups, learning is through handling and role–play in small groups. Look and listen to stories about artefacts, people and places. Guess what 'mystery objects' were used for. Stansted Park is a learning resource for investigation, comparison, looking for evidence and discussion.
Art work, design, and stories, music, drama and history, can be based on real characters and real objects that will fire the imagination. Domestic life can be re-lived, discussed and brought to life 'below stairs.' Upstairs in the splendid Music Room your music teacher can play the piano.
"I thought it would be a bit boring but it was fantastic and it was very different to normal school trips. I told my family about how good it was."
Children can handle 'mystery objects' and dress up to help the Butler, Cook or Housekeeper in their work. Look at the symmetry of the formal dining table and use number skills to work out how many spoons would be needed three times a day. Find out how the Footmen had a bath, and where the water came from (and went to!).
School groups of all ages can book visits with experienced guides from February to October, when the house is not open to the public. Call 02392 41 2265 to enquire and please check our diary before booking your transport.
